Roofing Services in London

Roof repairs, new roofs and roof replacement for homeowners in London — from a single slipped tile to a complete re-roof.

Elgar Roof works across London, with north and north-west London our particular patch (each has its own page). Repairs and leak-finding, re-roofs, flat roofing, chimneys, leadwork and roofline — on housing stock that ranges from Georgian terraces to last year's infill.

London roofs are their own subject

The capital's Victorian terraces hide more roof per house than anywhere else in Britain: butterfly ("London") roofs draining to a central valley, parapet and secret gutters lined in lead, slopes invisible from the street. When these leak, the water shows up a long way from the fault — which is why leak-finding here is diagnosis first and always. Add the flat roofs of back additions and outriggers, mansards and dormers from a century of loft conversions, and party-wall details shared with the neighbours, and London roofing rewards method over guesswork: inspect, photograph, explain, then fix the cause.

Services across the capital

Roof repairs including leak tracing, leadwork — parapet gutters, valleys, flashings and chimneys — re-roofing in slate and tile, flat roofing in EPDM, GRP and felt, and roofline work. Access is part of the job in London: where scaffolding or a tower is needed we'll say so in the quotation, not as a surprise afterwards.

Common questions

Roofing in London — your questions answered

Which parts of London do you cover? +
Our coverage runs from the Midlands down into London, so the north and north-west of the capital sit most naturally in our patch — but send your postcode wherever you are in London and we'll confirm honestly whether we can take the job on.
What is a butterfly roof, and why does mine leak? +
It's the classic London terrace design: two slopes pitching inwards to a central valley gutter hidden behind the front parapet. Everything drains through that one lead-lined valley, so when its lead wears, splits or its outlet blocks, water heads into the house — often showing rooms away from the fault. Keeping that valley clear and its lead sound is most of the battle.
Do you deal with shared or party-wall roof details? +
Constantly — terraces share parapets, valleys and flashings, and repairs often serve two houses at once. Where work genuinely affects next door's side we'll say so, and it's usually worth a friendly conversation with the neighbour; done properly, one repair protects both homes.
